Sarah Newell

Sarah Newell (PhD) completed her PhD in Health Policy at McMaster University. She obtained her undergraduate degree in health sciences and master’s in health systems at the University of Ottawa. Her PhD research focused on the influences of social, cultural, and ecological factors on community health. During her doctoral research she collaborated with the community of Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut focusing on food security and consumption of traditional food; consumption patterns which have changed across the Arctic following awareness of how contaminants in food sources, such as marine mammals, impact child and maternal health. She currently holds a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa working with Sonia Wesche and Eric Crighton on the Nunavut Water Resource Assessment and the Prenatal Environmental Health Education (PEHE) projects.
